A number of researchers have asked people to describe their\u00a0positive experience of tears and crying. See <a title=\"&quot;Why Cry?&quot; Part One: Women vs. Men\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cefocusing.com\/wordpress\/?p=517\">&#8220;Why Cry?&#8221; Part One: Are Women Better At Crying Than Men?&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"&quot;Why Cry?&quot; Part Two: Videos of MBTI Thinker vs. Feeler\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cefocusing.com\/wordpress\/?p=532\">&#8220;Why Cry?&#8221; Part Two: Videos of Thinkers vs. Feelers on the MBTI<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong>&#8220;Tears of Wonder\/Joy&#8221; by William Braud\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>In this\u00a0wonderful qualitative research article, \u00a0William Braud\u00a0\u00a0is doing a &#8220;phenomenological description&#8221; of the experience he calls &#8220;tears of wonder-joy,&#8221; with many concrete examples. He asked people to exactly describe this experience. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>In a section called &#8220;Felt Experience,&#8221; (I wonder if the author is a<a title=\"Intuitive Focusing Instructions at CEF website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cefocusing.com\/coreconcepts\/1a1.php\"> Focuser<\/a>!), Braud describes that participants reported positive affect and &#8220;feelings of joy, peace, awe, love, compassion, empathy and acceptance. There are feelings of unity, union, oneness, closeness, connection and immersion.&#8221; Read Braud&#8217;s article for a complete description of these powerful, positive experiences.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBraud goes on to define &#8220;wonder-tears&#8221; as an innate biological &#8220;empathy indicator,&#8221;\u00a0 an indicator of entering the numinous (holy, sacred) and a\u00a0 &#8220;signal&#8221; toward what is meaningful for each individual, a &#8220;sign post&#8221; on the path.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>Now, imagine adding Intuitive\u00a0Focusing to go deeper, to articulate these deeper meanings, as I teach in my article, <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rs6.net\/tn.jsp?t=jlvtexcab.0.0.ojinlacab.0&amp;ts=S0381&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fcefocusing.com%2Fpdf%2F2F2jFindingTheMeaningofTears.pdf&amp;id=preview\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Finding The Meaning Of Tears<\/strong><\/a><strong>.&#8221;\u00a0The Focuser\u00a0can articulate the landscape of their own soul, their &#8220;unique blueprint&#8221; in the Rogerian sense, using tears of being touched and moved as a kind of moral &#8220;compass,&#8221; keeping the keel of one&#8217;s soul-ship on one&#8217;s unique path, leading to action steps toward &#8220;carrying forward&#8221; on this path of meaning.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHere is the link to the entire article, <\/strong><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rs6.net\/tn.jsp?t=jlvtexcab.0.0.ojinlacab.0&amp;ts=S0381&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fintegral-inquiry.com%2Fcybrary%2Ftears.html&amp;id=preview\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>&#8220;Experiencing Tears of Wonder-Joy: Seeing With The Heart&#8217;s Eye&#8221; by William Braud<\/strong><\/span><\/a><strong>\u00a0.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong>Tears ARE Transformation, Felt-Shifting Happening<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\">I have found another wonderful phenomenological study of tears, this one, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rs6.net\/tn.jsp?t=jlvtexcab.0.0.ojinlacab.0&amp;ts=S0381&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fintegral-inquiry.com%2Fcybrary%2Fsacredtears.htm&amp;id=preview\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>&#8220;Nine Psycho-Spiritual Characteristics of Spontaneous and Involuntary Weeping&#8221; by Rosemarie Anderson<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">, Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, CA. Anderson confirms my own experience that a certain kind of tears IS transformation happening, is our body&#8217;s sign that something is changing, shifting at the deepest level, an &#8220;integration,&#8221; not simply a by-product of the deepest felt-shifting but part and parcel of it. She states that tears may be the border between mind\/body\/spirit, an essential part, perhaps even a causative factor in transformation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\">See my paper <\/span><\/strong><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rs6.net\/tn.jsp?t=jlvtexcab.0.0.ojinlacab.0&amp;ts=S0381&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cefocusing.com%2Fpdf%2F2F2nAffectFocusingExperientialTherapyFinal.PDF&amp;id=preview\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\"><strong>&#8220;Affect in Focusing and Experiential Therapy&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/a><strong><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #003366;\">\u00a0, which makes the same argument in terms of tears of &#8220;cathartic unfolding.&#8221;\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nAnderson cites the dissertation of one of her students, Dufrechou, J. (2001). Coming home to nature through the body: An intuitive inquiry into experiences of grief, weeping, and other deep emotions in response to nature. Unpublished doctoral dissertation proposal,\u00a0 Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, CA.
