Outline of Certification Program Stages and Costs
The Focusing Institute and CE Focusing ™ Certifications
Creative Edge Focusing ™ (CEF), in association with The Focusing Institute (TFI) in New York, USA, (www.focusing.org) , offers two Certification Programs, each conferring joint Certification with Creative Edge Focusing™ and with The Focusing Institute:
- Certified Creative Edge (CE) Focusing Consultant of CEF (and Certified Focusing Professional of TFI) and
- Certified Experiential (EXP) Focusing Professional (and Certified Focusing-Oriented Therapist of TFI).
Certifying Coordinators of The Focusing Institute (Dr. McGuire is a Certifying Coordinator) are each free to develop their own individualized programs for training TFI-Certified Focusing Professionals and Focusing-Oriented Therapists. During training with the Certifying Coordinator, trainers-in-training also pay a basic training fee to TFI (www.focusing.org/trainer.html ).
As a last step in the individualized training programs, trainees, upon the recommendation of their Certifying Coordinator, may attend TFI’s Certification Workshop (www.focusing.org/eShop/10expand.asp?ProductCode=W-070925-WL) in New York City as their “graduation” into the worldwide community of certified Focusing Professionals.
A one-time Certification Fee ($500) to TFI is included in the very reasonable tuition for this wonderful opportunity to become part of the Focusing Community and to receive support for beginning one’s practice as a Certified Focusing Professional. Attendance at the Certification Weeklong as an initiation into the larger, worldwide community is highly recommended.
It is possible, upon recommendation by a Certifying Coordinator, to become Certified by TFI simply by paying the Certification fee ($500). This might be done if, for instance, a trainee prefers to attend the Creative Edge Residential Intensive , the Focusing Institute Summer School, http://www.focusing.org/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=W-070820-FS , or an intensive workshop by another Focusing teacher, instead of The Focusing Institute Certification Workshop, as a graduation experience.
After certification, Certified Focusing Professionals pay a yearly fee to TFI in return for a Listing in the Referral Base and a webpage at www.focusing.org, and to support the many services of TFI.
Upon acceptance into a CEF ™ Certification Program, Dr. McGuire will refer you to TFI for registration as a “Trainer-in-Training” and to pay your separate fees to TFI
CE Focusing ™ Certification Programs
Dr. McGuire’s certification programs are characterized by her several innovations in the Listening/Focusing model:
- Emphasis upon self-responsibility and self-help
- Emphasis upon experiential learning communities
- Emphasis upon learning all seven applications of Creative Edge Focusing Pyramid
See the full description of The Creative Edge (CE) Focusing Consultant and Experiential (EXP) Focusing Professional training programs of Creative Edge Focusing ™. Alternatively, through consultation with Dr. McGuire, you could develop a more individualized program.
Self-Motivated Cost of Training
Trainees can determine their own cost of training depending upon the size of group they organize for their 3 Assessment and 10 supervised teleconference sessions with Dr. McGuire.
If they have money but less time, they can arrange an individualized program through consultation with Dr. McGuire. This option might be especially useful to a practicing physician, executive, or psychologist wishing to pursue certification with maximum independence in terms of time commitments.
If they have time to offer, they can arrange to barter for assessment sessions, supervision sessions, and membership in the online experiential learning communities. Through participation in the Creative Edge e-support group and consultation with Dr. McGuire, they can develop a Project or demonstrate other skills valuable to Creative Edge Focusing ™,
Trainees can also form groups of up to four people for assessment sessions and supervision sessions, thereby lowering the cost per person. And there are additional benefits, such as peer support and observation of differing styles, from working in a small group. They may recruit others in their local area to accompany them through training. Forming a local Focusing Community is part of the Stage One training program requirements.
Alternatively, they may meet other Trainees looking to form a Supervision Group through online Creative Edge Focusing experiential learning communities. During Stage One of either training program, they will be participating in the Creative Edge e-discussion list. During Stage Two, after acceptance into a program, they will be participating in the Collaborative Edge Focusing Decision Making (CEDM) e-group of Creative Edge Focusing ™, as well as in a trainee e-group. Through these experiences, they may meet other Trainees with whom they might form a Stage Three Supervision Group as a dyad, triad, or foursome, reducing the cost per person.
And costs of assessment and supervision sessions, in a group of four, as well as the yearly Experiential E-Communities fee of $200) may be waived for an individual who is offering significant services to CEF ™, coordinating Projects or Regions, offering web maintenance, research, networking, marketing services, etc. Use Free Consult to consult with Dr. McGuire about barter…..

Because of the flexibilities between completely individualized programs, bartering in exchange for services, and lower prices for small group assessment and supervision, it is very hard to give a concrete total cost of training….so, this is my best attempt!!!! Fixed fees which usually cannot be included in barter are written in bold)
